Paul Willis JROTC Memorial Scholarship

The Paul Willis JROTC Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by friends and family of Mr. Willis to honor his memory and commitment to the military and to the students of Haywood County. His military career was served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Willis was wounded in action on Jan. 13, 1945, and was honored for his valor with The Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Campaign Medal with five bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and most recently Mr. Willis had received the Legion of Honor Medal, France’s highest military honor, given to World War II veterans. Paul was indeed a man of honor and great courage. He was well – known and respected throughout Western North Carolina. Mr. Willis had such a tremendous impact on our country, our community and will be truly missed. This scholarship is available to ROTC Seniors at Tuscola and Pisgah High Schools.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Graduating High School Senior from Tuscola High School or Pisgah High School
• Enrolled in JROTC program
• Financial Need
• Attending a community or university college

SELECTION PROCESS

The process for selecting recipients of the Paul Willis ROTC Memorial Scholarship will be determined by the family/scholarship selection committee. The awards given by the family will be determined by available funds. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of the scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the Paul Willis JROTC Memorial Scholarship.

PAYMENT OF AWARDS

Payments of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of each semester. Checks will be made payable to the school for students account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office.
