The Haywood County Schools Foundation’s annual Mardi Gras celebration once again brought the community together for an evening of generosity, fun, and friendly competition, all in support of students and educators across the district.
Now in its 17th year, the Mardi Gras event raised more than $106,000 to benefit the students, schools, and staff of Haywood County Schools.
A highlight of the evening was the annual Mardi Gras court, where community leaders raise funds in support of the Foundation’s mission. This year’s candidates included Dr. April Perry, Savannah Rickman, Pam Smith, Jon Arrington, and Matt Johnson, each of whom worked hard to rally support and raise funds leading up to the event.
At the end of the evening, Dr. April Perry and Matt Johnson were crowned the 2026 Mardi Gras royalty after raising the highest totals among the candidates.
While the crowns and celebration are a fun tradition, the true impact of Mardi Gras is the support it provides for local students and educators. Funds raised through the event help support teacher grants, innovative classroom programs, student opportunities, and other initiatives that enrich education throughout Haywood County Schools.
Over the past 17 years, the Mardi Gras celebration has raised more than $1.2 million to support Haywood County Schools.
The Haywood County Schools Foundation extends its gratitude to the candidates, sponsors, volunteers, and community members whose generosity continues to make this event possible. Their support ensures that students and educators across the district have access to meaningful opportunities that enhance learning and success.
