The Charles K. Patterson Memorial Scholarship has been established with the Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc. to honor Mr. Patterson. This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a graduating senior from Tuscola High School.
Mr. Patterson graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1960. He began teaching in the Canton City School System that same year. He also taught at Waynesville Junior High and Waynesville Township High School. In 1966 he moved to Tuscola High School and taught there until his retirement in 1994. During his time at Tuscola he taught in the Business Department. He served as the Business Department Chairman for 12 years. Mr. Patterson was a special person who committed a major portion of his life to teaching and being a role model for his students. He was voted by the students Tuscola Teacher of the Year in 1981. The Tuscola student Yearbook was dedicated to Mr. Patterson in both 1985 and 1994.
This scholarship will recognize Mr. Patterson’s contribution to teaching in Haywood County and the positive impact he had on the many students he taught.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Haywood County Resident
• Graduating High School Senior from Tuscola High School
• Preference given to students entering a Business – related field
• Minimum 2.7 GPA
• Community service and involvement
• Financial Need
SELECTION PROCESS AND AWARD
The process for selecting recipients of the Charles K. Patterson Scholarship will be established by the Scholarship Committee. The committee is Haywood County Schools Foundation board members and Mr. Patterson. A personal interview may be required. One award will be given each year. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable Foundation, will administer the Charles K. Patterson Scholarship.
