Dr. Kristen Hammett, a local Veterinarian, has established a scholarship fund with the Haywood County Schools Foundation to assist high school seniors who want to enter a veterinary technician program at a community College in North Carolina. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc will administer the Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is available to all high school seniors in the Haywood County Public Schools. This year $750 will be available.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Graduating senior from Haywood County Schools
Accepted for enrollment into a North Carolina AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician degree program.
Scholastic Achievement
Experience in animal care whether at home or in workplace is given preference
PROCESS
A selection committee of the Animal Hospital of Waynesville will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarship. The selection process shall consist of a review and evaluation of the scholarship application and possibly a personal interview. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.
PAYMENT OF AWARDS
Payment of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of each semester. Checks will be made payable to the school for student’s account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office. A copy of the previous semester grades is required to be submitted to the Foundation before further payment will occur. Cannot receive FULL scholarship from any other source in order to receive the scholarship. The Haywood County Schools Foundation reserves the right to revoke the scholarship if the guidelines are not met.
