The Teacher Scholarship of the Haywood County Unit of the North Carolina Retired School Personnel was initiated to help graduates whose educational goals are to become teachers. Haywood County retired school personnel established this scholarship to support and to encourage new teachers coming into the profession. Two one-time scholarships of $500 will be provided to recipients of theses awards.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Haywood County resident
Graduating high school senior from public school in Haywood County
Pursing a degree in education
Submit a handwritten essay in their own handwriting (See Below)
Scholastic achievement
Participation in extracurricular activities
Exceptional ability and involvement in community service
Financial need one factor of consideration
BASIS OF SELECTION
The process for selecting recipients of the NCRSP Scholarship will be established by the Scholarship Committee and will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarship. Applicants must submit a personal essay in their own handwriting expressing personal goals, ambitions, educational goals, and life goals. An effective essay will be an important ingredient of the awarding of this scholarship. The selection process shall consist of a review and evaluation of the scholarship application and possibly a personal interview. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.
PAYMENT OF AWARD
Payment of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of each semester. Checks will be made payable to the school for student’s account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office. A copy of the previous semester grades is required to be submitted to the Foundation before further payment will occur.
