The James M. and Mary P. Edwards Memorial Scholarship was established by the Edwards family in 2010 in memory of James and Mary to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors who attend Pisgah High School in Canton, NC. James and Mary lived in Canton, NC where they reared three children and were active in their church and community
The scholarship may provide a $500 non-renewable award for students who will pursue full-time undergraduate degrees from accredited post-secondary institutions. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, on-campus room and board, books and other college expenses.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To receive consideration, applicants must:
• Attend Pisgah High School
• A graduating high school senior
• Have a minimum cumulative un-weighted GPA of 3.0 and a transcript reflecting a challenging course selection
• Demonstrate outstanding school service and community involvement
• Be a U. S. citizen
• Demonstrate financial need, but not restricted to lower income
SELECTION PROCESS
A scholarship committee of the Haywood County Schools Foundation will review all completed scholarship applications and select recipients. The committee reserves the right to rescind an award should a recipient’s circumstances change, such as failure to graduate from high school or failure to enroll at an accredited institution. The Haywood County Schools Foundation reserves the right to withhold the award in the event that no applicants are deemed to meet the qualifications.
MANAGEMENT OF FUND:
The James M. and Mary P. Edwards Memorial Scholarship is administered by The Winston-Salem Foundation. As the fund grows, the number and the dollar amount of scholarships may be increased. Questions regarding this scholarship may be directed to the Haywood County Schools Foundation.
