The John C. Howell Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established with the Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc. to honor his memory and legacy in the Haywood County Community.
Johnny Howell graduated from Tuscola High School in 1969. He was a three-year Varsity letterman in numerous sports and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a football scholarship. John graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Business Administration. At Tuscola, he was a well-rounded student, involved in many activities, and a leader among his peers. The Memorial Scholarship fund has been established by his family and will be administered by the Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc. This scholarship is available to all high school seniors at Tuscola in the Haywood County Public Schools system. Scholarship amount based on available funds.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Graduating High School Senior from Tuscola High School
• Involvement in community service
• Financial Need
• Participation in extracurricular activities and athletics (any sport)
SELECTION PROCESS AND AWARD
The process for selecting recipients of the John C. Howell Memorial Scholarship will be established by the Howell Family. The family will review the scholarship applications and a personal interview may be required. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the John C. Howell Memorial Scholarship.
